Donation to Shanti-med-Nepal

Instead of sending Christmas cards or gifts to our clients, Braavos GmbH chooses to make a donation to a charitable organization. This year, like in 2023, we chose the Swiss association Shanti-med-Nepal who built, supports and operates medical facilities in Nepal.

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. Nearly half of the Nepalese population lives below the poverty line. People living in poverty are affected by numerous diseases, some of them contagious. However, many sick and disabled people cannot afford the urgently needed medical treatment. Additional factors are increasingly worsening living conditions: frequent environmental disasters, unemployment, Covid, and inflation. The victims of this poverty are, above all, children. Every third child has to contribute to the family income and help with work. Most of them can attend school only irregularly, and many are undernourished.

The Swiss association Shanti Med Nepal shanti-med-nepal.ch supports various medical facilities with medicines, aids, and targeted financial contributions, enabling them to provide free medical care and rehabilitation for the poorest. They also cover the costs of expensive operations that patients would not be able to afford.

Their main project is Ratnanagar Hospital in the southern district of Chitwan, which—thanks to their support—has grown enormously over the last nine years, from a health post into a 65-bed provincial hospital.

Ecological sustainability is also important to the association. Large solar installations have been built on the roofs of the hospital buildings, and all waste is carefully separated and largely sent for recycling. Shanti Med Nepal is a member of the organization Global Green and Healthy Hospitals.

Shanti Med Nepal also supports many other initiatives. Details about their projects can be found on their website under Projects.

  • They regularly run health and food camps in remote villages.
  • They support several boarding schools and schools, especially the Navodaya boarding school.
  • For people with disabilities, they organize annual wheelchair distribution campaigns and also offer further assistance.
  • They also support a nursing home.

In addition to financial support, many volunteers from Switzerland and Germany regularly work in these projects. Doctors, nurses, and other specialists not only care for patients but also provide further training for Nepalese staff or help maintain buildings and equipment. In this way, support funds are used carefully and sustainably. All volunteers work unpaid and cover their own travel costs.

Help is still urgently needed. Please consider donating via their donation account.
